[Complete 1st & 2nd Show]
In 1991 I had just found a new studio partner, and he had a real nice collection of vinyl boots. Thumbing through, this one caught my eye immediately. It was the first time I would hear this show, and I knew it was something special right from the opening notes.
Almost 3 years after my first visit to the the actual volcano in Maui, here I was faced with the "Incident at Rainbow Bridge" vinyl bootleg version of this infamous show, and it's watery AUD quality was novel for the material and fit right in with the jaw-dropping insignificance-of-being that the volcano can project upon you. To be honest, I'm sure I'd even have a hard time focusing on Jimi Hendrix while being up on that 2 mile high spiritual force of nature. It's truly indescribable. Easy to understand how it is thought to be an epicenter of spiritual activity. But then to see him do his thing there must have been a life-altering if not universe-altering experience. And even though it's nearly August, I gaurantee it's cold up there, it always is. At -3 degrees for every 1000 ft of elevation, it's usually 30 or more degrees cooler than the beaches, so it rarely climbs above 60 degrees at the top of the volcano. Yet the view offers a moon-like surfaced crater the size of Manhattan, and beyond it is farm lands, forests, cane fields, lava fields and the sunny warm beaches below. That is if being above the clouds doesn't block all that as it quite often actually is going "Into The Clouds" on the drive up there.
Beginning of "Hey Baby (New Rising Sun), the voice-over intro is from the old version I had years ago, the distinct watery sound is exactly what I remember the boot sounding like. At 1:18 of the song, it boots back into this improved source, and the kick is quite obvious. Just a fantastic quality source here for sure. Also note that I used only the portion of the boot that contained this shows' material. The boot also had some AUD filler that I left out. The original version isn't hard to find if you're really inclined to have it all.
I've heard a few different sources, and I realize this one has seen some audio touch-ups already in the transfer, but just straight listening told me this was the source to use. Maybe there is a better source (or better gen of the same source) but I can tell you this one sounds pretty fucking awesome to me, for what that's worth to you...
