Sorry, no artwork. Comments: From the master DAT, recorded 11th row directly in front of the left speaker stack. I had the lowest of expectations for this recording, because I was standing in front of two middle-aged women who spent the concert catching up on each other's lives and the activities of their kids. However, it appears that I had hit the "crowd filter" button on my deck, because to my amazement they are nowhere to be heard on the recording. The tape has nice fidelity and a good balance of instruments; my taping location couldn't have been better given the legendary poor acoustics of the venue (if you're going to be any further back than 20th row at the Tweeter Center, leave your deck at home!). Samples are attached. I enjoyed the performance, and I think the loose, mellow feel of the show translates well to this recording. Adam was in good spirits, and had a couple of interesting, long improvisations; apparently the set remained static throughout the tour, but the band made all of the material sound fresh. Adam introduced "Mr. Jones" as a new arrangement, and encouraged everyone to listen with fresh ears even though everyone had heard the song a million times before . . . it definitely breathed new life into the song. "Hanginaround" concluded with bringing the opening act (not the Goo Goo Dolls; the unknown band that appeared before them) out for a group singalong. It was my first time seeing them and it lived up to my expectations, although I wonder why they played such a short headlining set. Goo Goo Dolls played 80 minutes as well (no, I won't be posting that -- I got there late and missed the first two songs, and had screamers all around me), and it seems like they could have eliminated the first act and given each of them an extra 20 minutes. Other than that, a good show . . . if you're even a casual Counting Crows fan and are only looking to check out a show or two from this tour, this wouldn't be a bad one to grab. |
