Set 1 | Stills Comp Information courtesy of Eddie Hill,
creator of this compilation. Stephen Stills Some Trip I Had To Deal With >1 Lean On Me - Boston 1971 From a boot called Drunken Horns which is of dubious origin (me). 7/29/71. This was, I believe Stills first solo tour, he was backed by Steven Fromholz and the Memphis Horns. Artwork for this boot was designed by acousticharmonies member Bill, thanks dude. An unrecorded Stills original. > 2 Witching Hour - Manassas outtake 1972 An outtake from the Manassas 'Down The Road' album, I think this is a better song that any song on the album. Chris Hillman released a solo version of this song in 1976, that album was reissued on Wounded Bird last year. Taken from another boot of dubious origin, Manassas Outtakes and Live. Artwork by Lee Shore member Dom of Great Britain. This is taken from Stills, Roxy Theatre, 1/25/79. >4 Susie Jane - LA 1979 From the same Roxy boot, Stills wrote this about his then fiance, Susan St. James. It was recorded but was not a part of the embargoed CBS solo effort. >5 Come On In My Kitchen - NYC 1979 A great version of the old Robert Johnson blues standard, backed by Michael Finnigan and Ms. Brooks Hunnicutt. Performed 7/2/79, Central Park. Source boot is of dubious origin entitled 'Stephen Stills w/Michael Finnigan - Live Blues' >6 Cherokee - CBS 12" Demo 1979 This was the first digitally recorded rock song, recorded in Feb. '79 at the Record Plant. Source boot is of dubious origin and titled 'CSNY - Odds and Ends' >7 Dangerous Woman On The Loose - LA 1980 This was another song that was recorded for the rejected CBS solo. It was performed 5/25/80 at a benefit called Survival Sunday III. There is a boot of that show, but this song is not on it, source boot was 'Stephen Stills - The Kid With The Big White Guitar'. >8 Feel Your Love - CSN, Daylight Again outtake This song was intended to be released on the Daylight Again album, but was found to resemble a song by Rose Royce and was replaced on the final product by Nash's 'Into The Darkness'. If you have Dave Zimmer's CSN biography, you can read about this song on pages 233-234. To my knowledge, this is the first appearance of this song on a freely traded boot. >9 Turn Your Back On Love (rehearsal) - alternate lyrics Taken from the boot 'Daylight Again Sessions". May 3, 1991. It's a piano song. Source boot is one simply called CSNY Rare and Stuff. >11 Come Together - Lennon Tribute 1991 From a Japanese release, Love: John Lennon Forever. My source boot was The Kid With The Big White Guitar. >12 Out Of Control - from 'Nash Bridges' 2000 Co-written by Stills and Don Johnson, I didn't like using a partial song on the comp, but this is good, if Stills did actually write the lyrics, it shows he still has it. >13 Old Man Trouble - CSNY, Chicago 1 - 2002 A Booker T. Jones original, Booker T. was a member of the band on this CSNY tour. Stills has performed this song in the past solo on piano and with the Stills Band with Finns on backing vocal and Hammond B3. The artwork for the CSNY show is probably on www.4waysite.com - but that site has been down lately. The art was by Dolf of the Netherlands. >14 Feed The People - CSNY, Chicago 1 - 2002 One of the songs from the rejected CBS solo, Stills brought it out for this tour. >15 Right By You (instrumental) - Daylight Again sessions An extended version, and a good one, from the Daylight Again Sessions boot. |
