Tech Note | The source DAT was received with tracks in a slightly different order, in an unknown generation but with a very full frequency spectrum showing little or no high-end generational loss. Frequency analysis is also free from the distinct spike at around 16,000 Hz characteristic of FM broadcasts. Consequently, it is my view that this particular recording comes directly from the station and not from a capture of a broadcast over the air.
Lohmann lists "Stella By Starlight" after "Oleo"; a nicely done crossfade hides a possible splice. The set was likely edited for broadcast to remove the ballad and bass solo, keeping the tempo up and fitting running time under 90 minutes. Peter Losin conjectures that one additional tune, perhaps "If I Were a Bell," was performed at the beginning of the second concert.
Recording quality is not flawless, the main issue being fluctuation of the cymbals between clarity and saturation at irregular intervals. Either mixing or mic feed moves around a bit as well, which calls into question whether this was actually ever aired or kept archived until getting leaked out.
No fades were applied between sets so as to preserve everything on the source tape and allow continuous play. FLAC encoding was done with sectors aligned as one complete set, not two separate discs.
