Knockin' On Heavens Door 6:48 Insane show (by '94 standards) and the best of the 3 show run. It was also my birthday and a beautiful sunny day which gave it that extra kick. If you have to go hear music in a stadium, Autzen is the place to go. Not only are the Eugenians some of the coolest most laid back people on earth, the town is one that reaches out and 'hugs' you, making you feel welcome and happy to be there. The acoustics at Autzen are mint, literally 'soundboardesque', so much that even my audience tapes sound great. Small as far as stadiums go, there's not a bad seat in the house, and Tie-Dyed flags surround the perimiter-NICE! What made this run such a treat was that they allowed camping onsite which is something I hadnt seen since the late 80's with few exceptions. No driving or commuting, just taking a casual walk from the campground to go see Jerry! Also missing from regular venues at the time were the lost teenagers & trolls begging for tickets & drugs, looking at my Sammy Smith Nut Brown Ale saying something like "spare a spill bruh?". All the people that typically destroyed the scene fortunately could not make the drive out to Oregon, and I loved it. Short 1st set, long 2nd set. Beautiful 15 minute Bird Song, smokin Scarlet > Fire (30+ minutes!), Sunday Samson, only 1 Vince song which was a blessing, Playin> UJB are always 2 nice friends to see in the 2nd set, a Killer Other 1 with nice Phil Bombs, sweet Wharf Rat with great Jerry vocals, and some Good Lovin which also became Great Lovin' after the show (wink wink). I dont collect many '94 gigs, but even if I hadnt attended this one, its one I'd still add to my collection..... |
