Taper Notes:
Here we have a duo "Crew" show, recorded a few months after the departure of Dave Newhouse. This is a fairly close mic'ed audience recording, with very good sound except for the occasional throat clearing of the taper. In fact, it sounds exactly the way I remember this band(I must have seen them 25 or more times), which may or may not be a good thing depending on your tolerance for "less than perfect" performances, lo-fi samples, buzzes, hums and slightly out-of-tune string instruments ;-)

The duo crew was equal parts music and performance art, with Fred & Tom seated amidst tables of homemade and conventional instruments, always struggling to play several parts at once, never giving up. One critic described them as "A sinking ship that, against all odds, somehow makes it back to port. " Later, especially after Zeena Parkins joined, they became tight in the conventional sense, but here, energy and anarchy rule
