J-Card Comment | Set I 1. Late Show with David Letterman - December 30, 1994 Video source: Cable > VHS HiFi master Phish's first network TV appearance. While at the time they were promoting Hoist, the story goes that Letterman asked them to play Chalk Dust Torture. The entire episode is included here, with chapter breaks for each section: 1. Opening 2. Dave's escape 3. Top-Ten with Dick Clark 4. Interview: Jerry Seinfeld 5. Dave and Richard Simmons visit New Jersey 6. Standup: Dave Attell 7. Phish: Chalk Dust Torture 2. Greek Theater, Los Angeles - September 29, 1995 Video source: 2nd Gen VHS HiFi With Jerry Garcia's death only weeks prior, leave it to the tabloid news to ask the important questions: "Is Phish the new Grateful Dead (and what drugs can I score?)" This video is b-roll / raw footage filmed at the Greek Theater. See the first advances of the wookie hordes. Watch Phish fans in action on the lot...basically wanting nothing to do with the camera crew or their asenine questions. About ten minutes of lot footage, followed by about a minute of the taper section/seats before the show, followed by the complete AC/DC Bag filmed from the soundboard area. Note: the audio for AC/DC Bag was recorded with one channel straight from the soundboard, and the other channel being the camera mic. Result was badly out of synch...unlistenable. For the DVD, the two channels were split, synched properly, and mixed together to mono using Adobe Audition. 3. Beavis and Butthead - Down With Disease Video source: 3rd Gen VHS HiFi (EP mode) From the "Bad Dog" episode, Beavis and Butthead comment on Phish's one and only MTV video. Did Butthead forsee Coventry? 4. "Esther" video - The Company of Science & Art Video source: 4th Gen (?) VHS You read about it on the phish.net; now see it here. The Phish.net FAQ says:Animated Esther: There is also a sorta-video made for "Esther", using a series of graphics slides by Scott Nybokken assembled by ___, who reportedly also did the 1997-98 NYE graphics. It was shown on a stage-back sheet 7-19-91 between sets, and has not been shown since, although a few (rare) copies have circulated on VHS. 5. "American Road" Shown on MSNBC's "Edgewise" program, this short film sets footage from 48 states to a live version of Phish's YEM. By Peter Shapiro 6. "Down With Disease" video Video source: 4th Gen (?) VHS Not the best copy, but watchable. There was room on the DVD. Set II Set III Comment Everything on this DVD is from old VHS tapes that have been gathering dust in a cabinet. I recently dug up some of these tapes and realized that there's plenty of great stuff here...enough to pull together a DVD for the trading community to enjoy. Here's what's on the DVD |
