West Side Story Medley In its 12 years on TV, "Evening At Pops" has featured musicians ranging from classical violinits to country guitarists. Tonight, jazz great Buddy Rich becomes the first drummer to solo with the Boston Pops Orchestra. Rich helps maestro John Williams and the orchestra get their new season off to a rousing start by joining them for George Gershwin's "Strike Up the Band" (1930) and for a medley from Leonard Bernsteins's 1957 score for "west Side Story Medley" that's capped by Buddy's dazzeling extended solo.
