Note | ** OK - first, I seem to have confused a few people talking about my
shows being "soundboard". If so, I apologize - having been going to record shows and collecting live stuff for 20 years, I was always under the "rule" that a live show, be it FM broadcast or from the mixing board or whatever, was soundboard. Because if it's professionally reocrded for the radio, it comes from the soundboard. If this is incorrect or whatever, I'm sorry. I do put on my notes that it is an FM broadcast if that is the case. I'm not trying to confuse or mislead anyone when I say these are "soundboard" recording, it's just what I've been used to for the past several years of buying live shows at record conventions, via mail, ebay, whatever. Having said that, this is a very good soundboard recording from Journey during their 1986 Riased On Radio tour in Detroit. According to Steve Perry talking during this show, this was beamed live via digital transmission/ satelite to Japan! Now, I have no idea if this was the first digital satelite transmissions or not, but being that this was back in 1986 it has to be one of the first concerts I would think? Unfortunately the person I bought this from a few years ago did not have the best sounding equipment to copy his recording I guess, so the sound is not excellent. I'd give it a solid B+. Like my last ROR concert, this is not the full show. In fact, sound problems aside, I don't think this show is as good as the Philly 86 show. Just my opinion, but I think they played better in Philly that night. However, this show is nice to have for a few reasons: - During "Raised On Radio", they don't cut when Steve yells "I want my mother f*cking radio!". - You get a rare recording of "Still They Ride" during this tour, which was later dropped for "I'll Be Alright Without You". -You get a rare recording of "Suzanne". -During the intro to "Lovin'..." Steve goes nuts and yells "stick it in!". HAHAHA Anyways, as usual, please enjoy, RATE if you like (or don't like). Oh - also, if anyone has better versions of these, or any other Journey (particularly the Perry-era) please please share. I will NOT be offended if I post something and someone turns around and posts a better version of that show. In fact, I'll download it myself, as I'm always looking for more JOurney - they are so hard to find anyways.. thanks y'all!!!!!! |
