Note | This is (as of 6/22/06) my favorite show from the May-June leg of the tour. The sound, although not as sharp as DAT recordings, is weighty with that condensed feel common to MDs. A very rich sound. It really shines on the parts where Adam is not playing distortion (beginning of 46&2 and Vicarious, middle of Lateralus, etc.) The instrument separation is great.
And this is one of the first shows where Rosetta Stoned started to make sense. The changes, the dynamics, MJ's melodies. It's going to turn out to be a monster live. MJ's voice is strong enough to attempt the Pot. Sounds pretty good, but he's straining. They're laying back on the tempo tonight, allowing for plenty of subtlety. It does wonders for songs like Stinkfist, 46&2 and especially Vicarious. But Schism, a song that sludges through anyway, is probably played too slow. The melodic middle section sounds beautiful though, complete with the crowd singing their hearts out to "between supposed brothers." And holy shit - that intro to Vicarious! They're getting better and better at the space jams. |
