Tech NoteGrade Overall : A Sound : A (Aud. Sounds a little bassy. No definitive "Bass" though. Mike is kinda drowned out by the overall bassiness. Doesn't detract from the show though.) Show : A/A+ for encore. *********************************** Set 1: couldn't tell ya. Set 2 + Encore: Let's just focus on the encore. Most of Harpua had Les Claypool and Larry "Ler" LaLonde from Primus. A very strange beginning section to the song, as Phish and Primus seemed to be "feeling out " the unusual song structure. The "Me and Harpua, could care fewer" part was very slow and a lot more shuffley than usual. After the opening, Les did the "Wildwood Weed" rap about a weed that makes you high. It fit in real nicely in it's time and place, cuz you know that Jimmy is about to take a trip of his own.... Then more Harpua and the Jimmy story (Jimmy and Poster Nutbag leaving the outskirts of Gamehenge and walking to Vegas to lay all of his money down and become rich). They stop and camp. At the campsite, they start yodelling, at which point John McEuen and Heather and Anamiekl August did a country/yodel tune. The story continues, Jimmy and Poster meet up with four Elvii on the edge of Las Vegas and have a duel, a la "Devil went Down to Georgia", by Charlie Daniels, which Primus recorded and made a little claymation cartoon out of (that closely resembles those Puffs Plus commercials you see now. Same animator I think). Anyway, I think its strange that I now envision Jimmy to be this character. I digress, back to Elvii. The four Elvis's sing the first few verses of "Suspicious Minds" and then Fishman continues. Jimmy is victorious and is allowed to enter Vegas. Then the dog/cat fight. Harpua wins and the song finishes. At some point everyone returns and then Brian Mantia, the drummer for Primus, shows up for "Suzie Greenberg." This is a very excited version with everybody playing. Ler is heard plying opposite Trey. Les is going apeshit as usual. Towards the end the Elvii start to make the show "Las Vegas style" by adlibbing to the theme of Suzie which turned into a "Suzie Q" jam led by one of the Elvis's. Then, something strange, again from Phish, a " Big Rock" ending of about 2 minutes, with lots of cymbal crashes and big guitar, and a final THUMP! and the "show" is over. Nuff said.
