NoteGeneral Notes:

Since Charlie Miller recently seeded a very nice 1st or 2nd row FOB AUD,
with plenty of Garcia's guitar in the mix, I decided to couple it with
the well circulated SBD since that source was woefully lacking in the
guitar in the mix factor, due to the fact that Garcia's stage volume was
plenty loud and little reinforcement was needed from the SBD, especially
in the first few tunes of the first set. The mix of the SBD improves by
Knockin', but Jerry stays relatively low in the mix for the rest of
the show; thus, having plenty of him in the AUD, allow the two sources to
work well together. The fact that Cleveland Music Hall is a nice sounding
room also helps.

This is a great show with a very tasty setlist. The whole band is on,
and Jerry never lets up, all the way from Melody through Tangled.

Thanks to everyone involved. For the FOB AUD, thanks to the person who
recorded it, to Dave Lisuch for the 2nd gen cassettes which Charlie Miller
transfered, edited and coverted to FLAC; for the SBD, thanks to whoever
recorded it, to Mike Lai for the original seed which jakemerc edited and
converted to SHN.

Tech NoteSBD: SBD>? orginal seed by Mike Lai, retracked by jakemerc AUD: (FOB) Unknown Mics -> Master Cassette -> Cassette -> Cassette via Charlie Miller (edits and transfer) via Dave Lisuch (tapes): Cassette (Sony TC-WE475) -> Sony R500 (Pass Through) -> SEK'D Prodif Plus -> Samplitude Professional v8.01 -> FLAC/16 Matrix: Both sources were downloaded FLACs/SHNs > WAV > Vegas 5 > WAV > CD Wave > FLAC 16 (level 8) Edited, mixed and converted by Chris Chappell scarfireATliquidcityDOTcom 3/18/06 Editing Notes: - Pitch/speed Both sources were pitched differently, the AUD being the sharpest or fastest. The AUD had to be pitched or slowed down between -.62 (62 cents) and -.79 (79 cents). This is almost a semitone (100 cents) difference. The SBD had to be pitched or slowed down between -.04 (4 cents) and -.10 (10 cents). - Synch Because of the speed fluctuation within a given source, multiple edits were performed to keep the sources synched (too many edits to list). - Sonic Quality/Matrix ratio The only dynamic processing I employed was Waves L2 (limiter) to the master 2 buss to keep things contained. All I was trying to do here is to add some dimension to the SBD by using the ambience of the AUD. The result is hopefully close to how it sounded at the show, albeit some phase is present. If I had to guess, the SBD/AUD ratio would be somewhere between 1.5:1 and 1:1, which has more AUD than usual, but I needed Garcia's guitar present which was coming primarily from the AUD. - Edits The following are places where the SBD and AUD had splices, holes or incomplete coverage in reference to the final matrix timeline. SBD: d1t01 (0:00 - 0:47) - missing (crowd) d1t02 (0:00 - 0:11) - missing d1t02 (13:48 - 13:55) - missing (crowd) d1t04 (7:39 - 7:46) - missing (crowd) d1t05 (12:26 - 12:27) - missing (crowd) d2t01 (14:44 - 14:45) - missing (crowd) d2t04 (0:00 - 0:07) - missing d2t05 (1:54 - 5:53) - missing AUD: d1t03>4 (8:19 - 0:02) - missing (tuning - 3 secs total) d1t06 (0:00 - 0:08) - missing d2t03 (8:07:44 - 8:07:53) - sub sec. tape warble/drop out (edited out) Note that a lot of the audio missing from the SBD is crowd noise from in between songs. Where there is music missing from either source, the other source covers those holes, thus full coverage has been achieved. The only major hole in the SBD is 4 minutes during Dear Prudence.
