Shakedown. Notes: This was a great show for me opening with a scorching Shakedown Street. From the first few minutes of the show I knew it was going to be a good Phil show, as the Greeks usually were. The Morning Dew has a dangerous Phil note. Please use with care! I remember having a tough time getting set up the first night as I did not have the real estate I wanted. After some bartering, nudgeing and kanoodling, I was able to set one mic stand on the isle (which runs exactly through the middle of the Greek) and clamped onto a friends stand about 13' to 14' down the row. Believe it or not (oh that was the third day...) I would use a white piece of rope (capsule to capsule) to try and judge if the mics were "close" to being on-axis to the speaker arrays. The mics were essentially directly behind Dan Healy's mixing console. From past experience I knew Dan would ride his right main fader to compensate for being on the left hand side of the isle. Standing behind him was clearly the center. I also intentionally chose the second row behind the soundboard due to the bands' guests who often were chatty at the most inapropriate times! There was nothing like a Greek Show. For anyone who saw the Dead at the Greek and for anyone who wishes they had, this ones for you. Turn back the clock to a simpler time by dropping disc one into your player and hearing a very good representation of what it sounded like at the Greek this particular Friday night. - SWS sounded like at the Greek this particular Friday night. - SWS S another one of those supreme audience recordings :) |
