Comments from Peter Losin's Miles Ahead: The Davis group was booked for three nights at the Bottom Line, June 10-12, and they apparently played two two-set shows (8:30 and 11:00 pm) each night. The music listed here circulates as from the first concert and the first set from the second concert. But where is the second set from the second show? "Untitled original 750505" was first recorded in the studio on May 5; "Untitled original 741106a" was first recorded in the studio on November 6, 1974. "Untitled original 750505" was a standard set closer during May-July 1975. Davis occasionally plays organ during this tune. During this tune in the second set (at 2:46-2:50), someone in the audience says "Hendrix should get all the recognition for this." Davis suffered from serious health problems (hips, ulcers, drug use) throughout the summer, but the Septet continued to tour: Paul's Mall, Boston (April 28-May 3); Just Jazz, Philadelphia (May 12-17); Bottom Line Club, New York (June 10-12); Avery Fisher Hall, New York (July 1); Central Park, New York (September 5). |
