Tech Note | FM>C>CD>EAC>SHN Sears clock radio/tape recorder > TDK AD-90 Cassette > Pioneer standalone burner > CDR > EAC > SHN Recorded by Joe Estades during 01-22-1983 re-broadcast using a Sears clock radio/tape recorder and a TDK AD-90 cassette. A/D conversion by Butch Cunningham using a Pioneer standalone burner. EAC>SHN by Barney Rubble. The story: Right after the Grateful Dead shows in Jamaica (11/82), I moved to Rohnert Park in Sonoma County, Northern California. My best friend ?Oak? was going to Sonoma State University, so we rented a condominium from 11/82 ? 3/23 on the outskirts of Sonoma State. I had the great fortune of catching Van Morrison at the Great American Music Hall, and the JGB at the Keystone and the Stone. But obviously I was there for New Years Eve 1982 and actually helped construct the Red Mushroom float for ziti and free admission. Also saw the Dinosaurs at the Cotati Cabaret 2/18/83. I still have the original Alton Kelly poster framed on my wall. The tale of the tape: I stashed away the 1/21/83 Garcia interview tape for 20 years and just dug it up by the grace of God a few months ago. Unearthed have you. (The fun did not stop there. I found a 23-year-old master FM of JGB 2/29/80 B that is cut from the cloth.) I recorded the 1/21/83 interview on a Sears clock radio/tape recorder. It did the trick, and now has left us with a very precious interview which no one has heard since then, when it was heard mainly by Sonoma County school bus drivers and the unemployed. KVRE: A great (now defunct) radio station broadcast the initial interview with Jerry Garcia on 1/21/83 over the air, live at 9:30 am or so (from their studio telephone to Jerry Garcia?s dwelling and telephone). They re-played it the next day around the same time, and that night, the Jerry Garcia Band performed at the Phoenix Theater in Petaluma, Ca. Great show, and my last JGB show during that stint out West. Garcia is quite jovial and when you hear the interview for the first time you will get choked up. |
