Tech Note | I transfer the tape from the DAT to my G5 (via S/PDIF), this keeps the transfer digital. I use Logic Pro 7 to record the DAT in real time. Once in Logic the first thing to do is EQ the recording. Next it goes the through a compressor to reduce the dynamic range (the difference between the loudest peak and quietest one). The last thing I use is a limiter. This is similar to a compressor in that it will trim any peaks. It also allows you to raise the whole level of the recording to any level below 0dB without introduce clipping. This is better than normalising because if there is a peak that's nearly at the limit then it won't increase the levels of the rest of the recording. This is important to remember when at gigs because there will always be someone clapping loudly near you. |

Comment | Main show postponed last minute due to Mike Mills becoming ill. Michael, Peter, Scott and Ken performed these four songs acoustically before leaving the stage. |
