Note | This gig happened about 3 blocks from where I was living at the time (above Stanard's Market on N. Champlain St., if you must know) in the summer of '91. A friend of mine and I walked over (with a bottle of cheap wine and a joint) and sat on the grass and watched Phish play. It was great - there were maybe 200 to 300 people there. A mini-outdoor festival. Fishman doing the Doors cover was awesome - really funny but well played. The horn section added a whole new dimension to the band (Suzy, Mike's kicked ass). I got up and slam-danced in front of the stage during BBFCFM. Listening back fifteen years later, it doesn't sound so good, so I don't know if it was just an OK show or if my memories are waxing nostalgic. Either that or it was the wine (and the joint) having a better time of things.
Memorable quote from when Fishman, dressed in that bizarre doughnut frock, gets ready to sing the Doors tune: "Is it man or is it fish?" |
