CommentOn the heels of his "Summer of '78" album release and just before embarking on a world
tour, Barry Manilow performed one of the first Live By Request shows for A&E. Earning the
highest ratings of any music show on the network up to that point, Barry gave millions of
viewers an unrehearsed, "spontaneous" mix of radio hits and personal favorites, each at the
request of phone callers, Internet participants, and even fax senders. Highlights include
several first-time public performances of then-new songs, soaring arrangements of his
trademark power ballads, and a rare performance of a song Barry wrote specifically for his
fans.
