Set 1 | THIS LAND IS YOUR LAND
NDR-TV GERMANY DOCUMENTARY 1989 This documentary by Paul Lee (produced in cooperation with British TV -- BBC?) was broadcast by NDR-TV (Germany) back in 1989. LINEAGE: TV Broadcast 1989 (PAL) VHS-Pinnacle Movie USB editing and PAL-NTSC conversion with TMPGEnc3XP Menu created with Nerovision. Through Woody's 1940 Library of Congress Interview by Alan Lomax (several excerpts), original interviews with Arlo Guthrie (Woody's son), Mary Jo Guthrie Edgmon (Woody's sister), Mary Guthrie Boyle (Woody's first wife), Matt Jennings (Mary Guthrie Boyle's brother), Alan Lomax, Arthur Stern, Pete Seeger, Jimmy Longhi, Harold Leventhal, Ramblin' Jack Elliott, and others, this documentary presents an in-depth look at Woody Guthrie from childhood/adolescence in Oklahoma to his death of Huntington's Chorea in New York in the 1960s. With the exception of a few brief "linking" commentaries in German, all interviews are in English with German subtitles. Pete Seeger and Ramblin' Jack Elliott perform some of Woody's songs ("Hard Travelin'" & "Pretty Boy Floyd") , and Woody himself is seen performing in excerpts from rare original footage. Also contains footage (excerpt) of Bob Dylan (Quest, 1964). With the exception of MGM's "Hard Travelin'" (1984, out-of-print), this is the best Woody Guthrie documentary I know. |
