found unlabeled by Dick Latvala in the vault. Apparently, Dick circulated these
to a few people at one point to find who was leaking shows to the trading community.

Comments: This tape circulates labled "LOM Mystery Tape", and usually with 4
songs before Finders Keepers (see ??/??/73). These songs are from the winter
or spring of '74, before Martin Fierro became a fulltime member. Supposedly
found in vault unlabled by Dick Latvala. It is doubtful that all these songs
are from the same show.

The Story!
Well that's basically it but here's the story again: I was going through a bunch af the missing betty reels and sent a few things to Dick to listen to that I thought were outstanding and I really wanted him to listen to. The big jam was from May 5/5/73 set #1 Garcia/Saunders with Tom Fogerty. The jam blew my mind and still does. Dick had set #2 in the vault on reel. I returned 5/4/73 complete and 5/5/73#1 to the vault not long after I sent Dick some pieces. The other things were from similar events although from different shows. Dick asked me several months later if he could put those pieces on a compilation as an Xmas gift for a private newsgroup on The Well. I agreed as long as the dates were not listed (for reasons I'm not going to get into again).. As a side he was interested to see how far he could trust this group. It wasn't long before I was aproached with this tape as trade bait so to speak. That was all Dick needed to know and if I'm correct that was the last tape he gave to that group. He did however over the years befriend some in the group and turned them on to tapes. That's the story. By the way 5/4/73 #1 has an equally impressive jam in it as well!
