Comments It sounds as though there is only one drummer on this tape - Mickey. See comment (4) below and the listing for 11/22/68. Bear can occasionally be heard making strange comments. Perhaps this is a tape of the signal that went to the monitors. After "one man gathers what another man spills" in Saint Stephen, Bobby says "Why did you pay for it?".
(1) the Eleven timing includes the "William tell" verse. The Eleven comes to a stop after the usual opening jam. Someone is heard saying "Fade out". Bobby explains they need to rearrange some things to correct an echoing problem. Bear suggests everyone on one side of the auditorium go over to the other side and vice versa.
(2) the Phil bass solo in New Potato Caboose contains a jam based on Frederick Chopin's piece "Opus #64", also known as "The Minute Waltz".
(3) After New Potato Caboose, Bobby says "We're gonna take a little break".
(4) Jerry asks for requests from the audience. When someone requests Alligator, Jerry says, "We're not going to do Alligator because one of our drummers, uh - broke down."
(5) After AWBYGN, Jerry says "You've just been victimized by the Grateful Dead!". |
