J-Card Comment | The Prodigy Norwich Waterfront 1992-04-24 Live BBC Radio 1 broadcast. SB>?>BBC Radio 1 FM broadcast>TDK SA-C90 Cassette master> >Sony JE530 A/D>Nomad J3>Dio2448>.wav>CEP>.wav>MKW 0.97b> .shn with seek tables appended. Note: The Sony JE530 is a minidisc recorder, however a pure digital output is available when using it as a "passthrough" device. Therefore, despite the presence of a minidisc device in this lineage there is no MD/ ATRAC compression. 1. G-Force // 4:21 2. Music Reach 4:15 3. Fire 5:00 4. Jericho 4:17 5. Your Love 4:17 6. Charley fake > Death Of The Prodigy Dancer 3:51 Total time : [25:31] Editing in CEP - Normalisation & minor fades at the tape flip. There are some technical problems (just 5 or 6 seconds into t02) and I applied CEP Click removal to the loudest noise. This enabled greater amplification during normalisation, and has no effect on the music (maybe I should have tried to reduce these noises more). Because this was a live broadcast of 5 bands - N-Joi, Orbital, Basti, Prodigy and The Shamen - there were some unavoidable and undesirable tape flips. One of them occurs more-or-less at the end of G-Force and I tracked this break to the start of track 02. Notes: Part of a live broadcast of 5 bands - N-Joi, Orbital, Basti, The Prodigy and The Shamen. The fadeout tracks - prodigy1992-04-24t00fadein.wav & prodigy1992-04-24t07fadeout.wav - may be used if burning this Prodigy recording to CD by itself. If burning in conjunction with the preceding or following set, omit these fade tracks. This recording has a peculiar audio signature - one that I have never seen before, and am unable to explain. The positive sample peaks (those "above the line") peak at about 3/4 of the negative sample values - those "below the line". This means that although the .wav files were normalised, the positive peaks are far from hitting the maximum sample value, the negative peaks get very close. This is not simply a DC offset issue - applyiny DC offset correction does not change matters. There was something very odd about this sound as it was broadcast by the BBC, and this peculiarity is present (and visible) on the audio for each of the 5 performers. The recordings were spread across 2 cassette tapes; nevertheless playback justs perfectly 'normal' (to my ears).
