Set 2 | Peter, Mike and Scott joined Wilco on stage for 'California Stars'. After These Days, Stipe mentions the "bad ass" jacket he wore during the first three songs was in dedication to his 9 year old nephew in Athens. He said that his nephew has just now has come to understand what it is that he does for a living. He also asked Stipe over the phone that day whether or not he would gamble and also if he would wear an "evil warrior suit". He remarked by stating that it would be a gamble to wear such a suit. He said this a few songs later in the set. Nightswimming is played in the memory of September 11. Stipe forgets his lines 3/4 of the way the way through, and to rectify this, he sings 2 lines accapella to bring Mike and Ken back in. (source: r.e.m. timeline) |
