J-Card Comment | Hi It?s payback time and here is my first torrent. It?s a live performance that I?ve never seen in STG before: THE BEATLES ? VANCOUVER/CHICAGO 64 Beatles Vancouver 64, Aug 22 / Hollywood Bowl 64, Aug 23 Liberated Bootleg Source: Pre-FM (probably) Lineage: Vinyl -> Bootleg CD -> Cdex 1.51 -> WAV -> APE (Monkey?s Audio 3.99) CD: The Beatles ? Vancouver/Chicago 64 ? Adam VII Ltd ? CD 49-031 ? Made in Germany Unless you?re a die-hard fan, most live Beatles performance sounds pretty much the same. Schedules and song list were tight, and sound quality ranges from regular to not audible. But this show recorded in Vancouver, 1964 August 22 really knocks me out. The sound is good, probably radio broadcast. The source is vinyl. But what really pays is the way the band play. There is much more then blood in their veins. The boys are way too crazy, hilarious and inspired in that show, especially Paul. The second part of the CD, Chicago, September 5, 1964 is actually copied from a scratchy vinyl of the 1964 August 23 Hollywood Bowl show. There are many different sources for that show. This is the worst I?ve ever heard J I?ll risk a review: 1. - 22. - The Vancouver (Can) Show, August 22, 1964 1. Introduction 2. Twist and shout 3. You can?t do that ? first sign of a funny show. During the solo, the vocals come a little late on the fourth ?you can?t do that? 4. Paul intro, 1,2,3,4,5 count-in 5. All my loving ? very inspired vocals at the end 6. John intro ? ?She loves YOU? 7. She loves you ? John and Paul: pure energy! In the end there?s a loud laugh from John 8. George intro 9. Things we said today ? Paul forgets the lyrics and improvises ??be my one and only, yes you say oh my?. More laughs during the song? this time, Paul 10. Roll over Beethoven ? George?s guitar and vocals are sheer heart attack ? what a show! One of the most best versions ever ? 11. M.C.?s warning to the crowd ? ??two kids crushed? everybody down or no show?? 12. Paul intro? 13. Can?t buy me love ? a rock?n?roll thunder! Again laughs, and great guitar licks 14. John intro 15. If I fell ?Paul is so crazy that he doesn?t care anymore? he actually sings some parts totally out of key 16. Paul intro 17. Boys ? Paul, again starts quite off key the second backing vocals part. You can hear John?s laughing like calling Paul?s attention. Later, in the second part after the solo, John, off the mike, starts doing ?be-bop-a-lula?. Paul comes loud with the ?be-bop-a-lula? stuff, all of them cheering a lot. 18. John intro, interrupted by Derek Taylor, threatening the audience to cut short the show 19. John intro 20. A hard day?s night ? a tight version 21. Paul intro 22. Long tall Sally ? Great guitar solos! A great end to a great show, unfortunately so short, as it was common back in the early 60?s. 23.? 43. ? Hollywood Bowl, August 23, 1964 ? listed as Chicago, September 5 ? sounds like a radio broadcast (in some of the tracks the sound comes and goes, like someone is tuning the dial) ? very scratchy Lp source. 44. BONUS: Vancouver Press Conference ? Very funny stuff! |
