NoteTool chooses a fantastic setlist as Crawl Away, H. and No Quarter are featured. Their set starts out after sundown, in contrast to other Lolla shows which begin at dusk then move into night as the show progresses. The venue, under the black desert sky, stays very dark the entire show and intensifies the visuals. This effect can be seen beautifully during H. as the only light is the soft glow emanating from behind Danny's drums, and the oscillating clouds and fire on the screens. Maynard draws out the soft-spoken recitation of "I don't mind" longer than I've ever heard before. The phrase evolves into the climactic bellow, after which Maynard throws his gaze to the sky - back arched and hands welcoming the aggressive punctuation released from his bandmates. And listen to the sprawling gong accenting the beginning of each weighty measure after "locked in a place where no one goes." I can only imagine what was going through minds of those seeing or hearing Tool for the first time.

The continuity of this and all Lolla shows is fluid, held together by experimental improvs between the songs and short, but edifying comments from MJ. It's true art.

There is some brickwall when the bass drum and lower toms hit, but otherwise the sound is solid. The taper has a steady hand and the video is heavy on the wide-pan shots, comlimented by some very clear close-ups of Maynard and Danny adorning him from behind. Unfortunately the very end of Aenima is cut off (tape or batteries ran out?)
