Tech Note | Below I reposted some info from the previous torrent from this festival. This about the recording of this festival, the first multi-day Bluegrass ever put on by Carlton Haney. I just want you all to know what a great historical document this is. Again many thanks to flux3000 who has such a great collection of Bluegrass and is willing to share with us who don't. Thanks again my friend. Here is what Phil Zimmerman says about this festival , he apparently is the source for these recordings. "In 1965, I made the pilgrimage to Cantrell's Horse Farm in Fincastle, VA, to attend the very first multi-day Bluegrass festival, Carlton Haney's Roanoke Bluegrass festival. I brought a camera and a banjo with me, but most of the time I was helping Carlton and Ralph Rinzler document the event on Ralph's Nagra tape recorder. (I still have a set of the tapes, if you're interested)" Here is Phil's web site he has some really classic photos he took of the greats of Bluegrass & New Grass from The Stanley Brothers , to Sam Bush & David Grisman circa 1973. He also has a print of the original poster for this festival. The poster has also been made into a tshirt which I bought from the good people at www.iblugrass.com at Merlefest. I forgot to put up Phil Zimmerman's website here it is http://www.bluegrasstime.com/index.html Also mispelled www.ibluegrass.com It's on his website, here to be exact- http://www.bluegrasstime.com/pages/...egrasstime.html |
