I think the point of the rehearsal is to simulate the pacing and energy of an actual concert -- there are periodic breaks to work out logistics (lighting, sound, etc.), but for the most part this is very similar to an actual show (including several points where Mick thanks the fictional "audience"). The quality is excellent. The master is an analog cassette so there is some hiss, but overall the sound is outstanding. The mix is quite good and instruments are well-miked (Charlie's drums sound better than they do on most live tapes), although the backing vocals are a little more prevalent than you would hear on a commercial release or FM. In the spirit of full disclosure (since many collectors are concerned with the lineage and integrity of their sources), I should add that the full DAT source I have is about 8-10 minutes longer. I edited out some long silences in order to bring the length down to 2 discs. All of the music is intact. (Source has removed some of the hiss, but otherwise didn't the mix is untouched.) |
