NoteThis version is the new cassette transfer by Tony L. As it goes, the BBC broadcast this show several times in the late seventies. Each time, Tony tuned his FM stereo as finely as possible to get the best sound, and recorded it onto cassette. This recording is the remastered cassette transfer (onto cdr) of the best of his attempts to capture that FM broadcast. Although it is flawed with some tape wash, I actually like this version better than the straight-from-the-board recording (Source A) that has been around for so many years. This one has more life, dynamics, depth, and I just seem to feel the music more, even with the tape generated flaws.
More description of this show:
This recording is the excellent BBC broadcast of the 6th and final show at Wembley Arena. We're extremely lucky the BBC archived this incredible show so well.
I'm not a usually a fan of medleys (in fact I normally despise them), but the one Yes pulled off this tour, and especially that night was mindblowing. Skip the cheesy Time & a Word, but once LDR kicks in: It's ON! The Fish will never be performed with more awe-striking power than that night - Perpetual Change the same - and the transition directly into the victory march of Gates raises the energy to feverish levels. Unreal stuff.
