| Note | Yep, pretty convinced the CSCs are the best mic to record Tool (used with a good DAT, that is). Although you can't really argue with the sound of a pair of schoeps in most any situation.
The CSCs seem to take the edge off the oft-overwhelming bass in Tool's sound -just enough- (something other mics like CSBs, etc. just never seem to do consistently, even with bass roll-offs, etc.), while absolutely capturing the atmosphere (that space!) of the venue, so unique to these mics. Love em!! See Wim's 5.23.02 & 2.11.97 and Travis' 11.03.02 & 11.05.02 for even better examples of these CSCs. This is the most raucous Third Eye of the tour (excepting perhaps 11.24.02). It's raw, about to fly off the track at any second, yet still Tool-tight. Adam fucks up his solo right off the bat, but ends up taking it in odd & different melodic directions, adding to this whole feel. Beautiful. Meanwhile, Danny & Justin are pounding & banging away in that 3/4. The entire solo - post solo section is some the most furious, jamming Tool I've heard. |
