Note | First night of the US summer tour: 2002 version. The debut of Adam's brand new stage decor, featuring (or over-featuring) the artwork of Alex Grey. I don't think any artist has gotten more free & in your face pub than Mr. Grey has gotten from Tool over the past 2 years. Talk about making someone.
Very nice, ambient recording here. The D8's normally always do a nice job of that: catching the fullness & weight of a venue. The bass is a little heavy, but not bad. Tool pulls off a very good opening night performance. It's more laid back than I expected. Songs were not played with an anxious aggression one expects on an opening night, rather a more subtle, mature, later in the tour feel. MJ's voice is way up in the mix this night, a deviation from normal Lat. shows. Its a bit overpowering, but nice to actually hear him for once. |
