NoteVery interesting Lollapalooza audience capture. Tool were on the main stage by now, so their performances had even more of an edge to them. Maynard went all out into these performances, so much much so that his voice was noticeably blown from the screaming, and his pitch wavers at some points, particularly toward the end of the show. Tool had even more reason for energy and aggression on this night, picking up on the spirit of Rage Against the Machine's showing just before them (see notes below). An odd setlist as well; they were no doubt changing it up on a nightly basis.

The recording sound fluctuates. The volume starts low, is turned up in the middle of the first song, and there are some channel dropouts throughout. Also, the taper recorded part of this show from the mosh pit. He gets smacked a few times which can be heard on the recording. But in all, this is likely the best audience recorded '93 Lolla Tool show. Rich and clear DAT sound.

Notes:

1) The venue for this show is actuall the JFK Stadium "Pit." The actual stadium was torn down the year before and it was decided to have the Lollapalooza show in the hole that was left. Apparently it was dirty, dusty and hot, but the show was nonetheless great.

2) Tool performed on the main stage after Rage Against the Machine on the second leg of the tour. This is notable because at this Philadelphia show, Rage staged their infamous naked duct tape protest. To protest the conservative censorship by the PMRC (Parents Music Resource Center), the members of Rage stood on stage naked and still for 25 minutes without playing any songs, to a constant barrage of feedback. Each band member had duct tape across his mouth and a letter scrawled on his chest, spelling out 'PMRC.'
