I was very pleasantly surprised when I popped this one in and listened through. The opening Grudge alone is so good, I had to rewind, play it again immediately after first hearing it. I had been holding off on trading for these early '02 dates, because I was just unimpressed with the setlists and performances of the ones I had heard. This is probably a mistake because Tool -loves- playing New Zealand and Australia. Loves it. I'm pretty convinced they'd move there if it was practical. They bring some great performances down there when they visit. Lots of energy from the band, everyone is on, but this is Maynard's night. It's early in the tour and his voice is soaring tonight, and it is UP in the mix, unlike many other Lateralus shows. The fantastic D8 recording using the always rich CSB mics has a lot to do with the enjoyment of this show. This one is likely to become one of my favorite Lat tour shows.
