Taping-related story from this show:
The basic taping scene at the Keystone back in this era was be low key and the venue might not hassle you, but taping officially was not allowed.
A lot depended on the specific security for the show but running stealth or otherwise being descrete was wise. This was the night I first met
Bob "Cave Bud" Damico and he and I, along with one other taper, all ran hand-held mics next to each other from the bar tables behind the dance floor.
One other unknown taper decided to set up a stand just across the center aisle from us. He was running either Nakamichi 300s or Sennheiser 441s
into a Sony D5. During the early part of "Second That Emotion", the venue security came and told him to lower his stand as it was too obvious.
We were suprised that they let him continue but they definitely told him to drop the stand down below head level. The guy seemed preturbed that he
was asked to do this but begrudgingly accomodated them for the rest of the song. Before the beginning of "Love In The Afternoon", the guy raised
his stand back up. Needless to say the security was back shortly into this song, telling the guy again to lower the stand. This time the guy got
belligerent with the security, yelling at them and eventually shoving one of the security guys. That was all it took...the guy was dragged off,
kicking and screaming, and the security was seen tossing him out the side entrance. They then returned and gathered up all of his gear in a big
pile and threw it all out the same door. You can hear Bob and the other stealth taper commenting on the whole scene between each song. Just a bizarre
taping memory from this show...
