| Tech Note | Prince and the Revolution First Avenue, Minneapolis August 3, 1983 Excellent Soundboard recording SHN files: 710 MB From "The Avenue" silver CD Moonraker 089/090 Ripped using iTunes (error correction enabled) Converted to SHN and MD5 created using Shorten for OSX From the CD notes: A benefit concert for the Minnesota Dance Theatre company. "Let's Go Crazy," "Computer Blue," "Electric Intercourse," "I Would Die 4 U," "Baby I'm a Star," and "Purple Rain" were all played live for the first time. From this recording, "I Would Die 4 U," "Baby I'm A Star," amd "Purple Rain" were used for the Purple Rain album. This show was also the debut for Wendy Melvoin. Other notes: This is available thanks to a video crew that was on hand to officially record the show. Obviously, the tracks used for the Purple Rain album were subject to overdubs, editing, and remixing. This version of "Purple Rain" contains an extra verse and clocks in at 13 minutes! Disc two contains the afternoon rehearsal for the show. It's great to hear Prince give out directions to the band... he can really work them hard. Other high points: a great cover of Joni Mitchell's "A Case of U" and the only circulating recordings of the unreleased "Electric Intercourse," which was to be on the Purple Rain soundtrack but was replaced by "The Beautiful Ones."
