Tech Note | This recording was found on Furthurnet and listed as a BMW show, but in 1973 the band was named The Wailers by Chris Blackwell, the producer of Island Records. In the movie "Soul Rebel" he says, "The strategy was really like to present them as a black rock group. That's why, though when I initially signed them it was Bob Marley & The Wailers, I said, 'Well let's make it The Wailers.'" This show was their first US appearence, featuring all the usual members except Bunny Wailer who left the band a couple of months before, at the end of the European leg of the tour. The sound is decent with very good levels but is marred by some hiss from a C gen somewhere in the lineage and a small amount of 60 Hz buzz. It seems like the tape was stopped between songs, but the continuity is still there. The show came as non-seekable shns and was sent through mkwACT one more time to append seek tables. No other processing was done. Listed as a SBD in the original text file from Furthur, due to the applause and crowd cheering, that's not likely. What we do get, though, is excellent energy and harmonies from a younger Bob and Peter, a fabulous glimps into history. SHN: 272 MB TIME: 37:43 min The tape was not stopped between songs, there were just gaps (maybe from digital editing) |
