Led Poisoning (Flying Disc) Soundboard
Dazed and Confused (cuts in at guitar work prior to bow solo), Stairway to Heaven, Whole Lotta Love medley (cuts in prior to Let?s Have a Party), Heartbreaker
The now defunct German Flying Disc label (Bootlegger?s rule #1: Never put your address on the back cover of your releases) presents this amazing soundboard excerpt from this famous show. The sound quality is excellent, with Bonham?s drum sound unbelievably presented. Tight snare and fat bass drum. There is minor high end frequency distortion, but it is mainly in the background with the cymbals (likely the cause of it) and hurts the recording very little. The overall balance is excellent as well, making this soundboard portion all the more satisfying. The tape cuts in right as Page and Bonham start battling it out before the bow solo in Dazed, and the show only gets better. Page is playing the best he ever will during this period, and Bonham is right behind him. Plant is in typical voice, post his mysterious vocal "operation," with little of the "Hammer of the Gods" sound left in him, but with these Euro shows he establishes the range and technique he will use from then on. Regardless of this, he is outstanding in Stairway, the Whole Lotta Love medley and in the adlibs in Dazed as well. The audience source is great for the rest of the show, but do not do yourself the mistake of thinking that that is all you need. This is a source you can blast in your car with awe.(Mike Magnon Jan 02) |
