Comment | Notes: An extracted review from THE FAMOUS ETIQUETTE BOOK...
(Crazy Joe) : And it came to pass that Dylan raised his axe and let forth a mighty chord that rent the very foundation of the earth. And truly it was ground breaking stuff, and many that were to follow tilled the earth that he had broken, and many and varied were the fruits of their labour, but Dylan was the first to plough that land and make fertile the barren rock and bring forth the ghost of electricity. So beganneth the infamous 1966 "world tour", and this 8 CD box set, containing all of the unreleased circulating soundboard recordings from the tour, is the equivalent of an illuminated manuscript documenting the event... All shows/recordings found in this set use the best available sources. An explanatory breakdown of the source information follows: - Sydney Stadium, Sydney, Australia - 13 April 1966 sourced from the original reel-to-reels to CD-R and superior to any versions previously circulating, with more punch and dynamics, and a brighter, fuller sound - Festival Hall, Melbourne, Australia, 20 April 1966 remastered from the long gone, original Wanted Man release WM-023, acknowledged as the finest-quality source recording - Adelaide, Australia, 22 April/Edinburgh, Scotland, 20 May 1966 also remastered from original Wanted Man release WM-023 - Adelphi Theatre, Dublin, Ireland, 5 May 1966 Nagra reel-reel source....superior to previously acknowledged best-quality Dublin found on the 1989 Italian Bulldog release - KB Hallen Hall, Copenhagen, Denmark, 1 May 1966 from Don Pennebaker's documentary film, EAT THE DOCUMENT - ABC Theater, Edinburgh, Scotland, 20 May 1966 1st-generation dub from reel-reel of the WNEW-FM, NYC, broadcast (dating from the early 70's...) - Odeon Theatre, Liverpool, England, 14 May 1966 Nagra recording......incredible sound and performance - Hotel Room, Glasgow, Scotland, 19 May 1966 also from Don Pennebaker's documentary film, EAT THE DOCUMENT - Gaumont Theatre, Sheffield, England, 16 May 1966 (acoustic) 3-track master tape...easily the finest quality of circulating acoustic shows (incl/Manchester) and a haunting, otherwordly performance. (electric) Nagra reel-reel source - Odeon Theatre, Birmingham, England, 12 May 1966 Nagra reel-reel source - Free Trade Hall, Manchester, England, 17 May 1966 different feel from either GUITARS KISSING & THE CONTEMPORARY FIX or THE BOOTLEG SERIES VOLUME 4 (RAH); acetate source - Royal Albert Hall, London, England, 26 May 1966 from 1st-generation Gelston acetate dub/remastered; there are a couple of drop-outs (in 'She Belongs to Me' and at the beginning of 'Just Like A Woman'), and this does stll include acetate noise (assorted pops and clicks) - other than that, easily superior to the classic (and hard-to-find!) BEFORE THE CRASH - Royal Albert Hall, London, England, 27 May 1966 also from 1st-generation Gelston acetate dub/remastered; again, this is cleaner, smoother and quieter than BEFORE THE CRASH - WBAI-FM Radio Show with Bob Faas, New York, NY, 19 January 1966 A Midwinter's Night's Scene, with Dylan being interviewed and taking calls...entertaining and amusing An impressive collection (yes, that's a severe understatement!). A bit of information about the artwork; since SHN copies don't include '2 booklets postcards & poster,' I've modified the gold-embossed sticker on the front using Scorpio's new 'GBS' version of the CBS logo.
