I'm So Tired (Take 5) Notes: This is not a bootleg that you play for pure Beatles enjoyment. It is a bootleg that gives you a picture of how the Beatles derived their sound, and what was on each track. There are, intermingled with the other songs where vocals are clicked in and out, and flanging is experimented with, and songs are stopped, and rewound, a few songs where you hear a song all the way thru, without interruption. Highlights include a version of I am the walrus that is piano, drums, and bass. Here, there and Everywhere, with the backing vocals way up. Very pretty. Then there is Brian Epstein blues, a song you may have heard about on lists of unreleased songs. It's very short, and more of a quick joke by John, in the manner of Los Paranoias on the Anthology series. I would give this a higher rating, if it were an album that I could just listen to for enjoyment, like the Rooftop Concert, or the White Album acoustic demos. This is an album for the scholar, and the technician, who has questions as to how the sound they had was generated, and what experiments they used, trying to find that perfect Beatle's song, always hidden like a rare pearl in the belly of the oyster. I would recommend it to serious collectors only. As such, it is a fine album, and full of surprises, and revelations about the mixing process.
