Note | Incredible! |
Tech Note | NOTES: d2t10 (Salad) left channel drops out @ :45 for 7 seconds The copy that I received of this show had an extra track at the end of DISC 2. It is actually the same version of "Struttin' With Some Barbeque" from Set 1. It is not included here. PERSONAL NOTE: I worked on the rigging crew @ Memorial Hall for a semester (Spring 1989) At that time it was still a "Hemp House" theatre which means it used large hemp roaps and sandbags for the flying system. We had to manually raise/lower/tie down curtain and scrim bars while standing on a metal support 6 feet in the air. Hard work, and the roaps would give you tiny little splinters on your hands and forearms. But, I got to see some great shows for free! And, it was basically in the same condition as when Louis Armstrong played there in 1954. Currently, the hall is undergoing a 2 year renovation. http://carolinafirst.unc.edu/memorialhall/ |

Comment | Circulates misdated as 05/01, 05/04, 05/05, 05/12, 05/14, and 12/05 and perhaps other dates. May 8, 1954 is the correct and only date: http://ils.unc.edu/afporch/audio/louie/louie.html Armstrong apparently performed twice for the German club's Spring Dance: in the afternoon at Memorial Hall for the public and in the evening, 8:00 to midnight, for a formal dinner. The afternoon performance circulates widely.
