Tech NoteComments: This is the first of two concerts at "De Kuip" in Rotterdam during the summer leg of the Joshua Tree Tour. While not as legendary as their 3 consecutive Zooropa shows there, they must have enjoyed this one too, in front of 46,000 exuberant fans. The sound on this bootleg is very clear and the atmosphere is captured extremely well. The only downside is that there's a lot of clapping and individual audience members can be heard singing and screaming. Most of it is between songs though, so it doesn't annoy too much. Before "I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For" Bono tries to say "Het is fijn om hier te zijn" (It's nice to be here), but it doesn't sound very Dutch. The song has "Exodus" linked to it. During "Sunday Bloody Sunday" Bono asks the audience to shout "No more!" for Belfast City, Derry, and Beirut. A rousing version of "Exit" features snippets from The Doors' "Riders On The Storm" and Van Morrison's "Gloria". Bono must have been in a Door's mood because he includes lines from "Break On Through" in "The Electric Co.". A short, but great version of "Bad" has the usual snippets of "Ruby Tuesday" and "Sympathy For The Devil". Bono speculates about the number of people in the audience before "Bullet The Blue Sky" and sings about walking through the streets of Rotterdam and Amsterdam. He opens a bottle of champagne during "Party Girl" and thanks the audience for waiting for 2.5 years and getting the tickets, which sold out faster than the ones for the Dublin shows. "40" is faded out towards the end. With 18 tracks and more than 79 minutes of music, this disc is absolutely chock-full. In fact only one song - "With Or Without You" - had to be left out completely. It's a very good "Joshua Tree Tour" bootleg and my experience is that it's not easy to find, so buy it when you see it. This is a picture disc. It is also available, along with THE FLAME AND THE FIRE, and RED SUN AT MIDNIGHT as KTS's 3CD boxed set EIGHT 579 BABY.
