The Burning of the Midnight Lamp - Stora Scenen, Grona Lund-Tivoli Garden, Stockholm, Sweeden, September 11, 1967 * This Version of Burning of the Midnight Lamp presented here was recorded during his visit to Stockholm at the end of his second tour of Sweeden, in September 1967. Written on the plane when Jimi flew to the Monterey Pop Festival in June 1967. The song was very special to him. The performance included on this CD is very fresh, as it was played in public for the first time only a week prior. 02. Foxy Lady - Virus Studio, Bussum, Holland, November 10, 1967 * Noel Redding backing vocals. 03. Catfish Blues - Virus Studio, Bussum, Holland, November 10, 1967 * Noel Redding backing vocals. Two Selections from the Hoepla performance are presented here. First we hear Foxy Lady. Jimi not only played some of his greatest hits on this occasion, but also did an amazing version of Catfish Blues. It's un- fortunate that the footage of this exceptional performance has not survived. 04. Oh, Man, Is This Me or What? - The Playhouse Theatre, London, England, December 15, 1967 * Interview by Tony Hall with Jimi Hendrix, Mitch Mitchell, and Noel Redding. In December 1967 the Experience took some time off to induldge in promotional activities for their newly released Axis: Bold As Love LP. On December 15th they found themselves back at the Playhouse Theatre to record for Top Gear, their second appearance for this program. 05. Purple Haze - Capital Theatre, Ottowa, Ontario, Canada, March 19 1968, 2nd Show * Luckily the second show byt the Experience at the Capital Theatre has survived. Recently a slightly better source was discovered and Purple Haze is included from this newly found tape. 06. Fire - Miami Pop Festival, Gulf Stream Race Track, Hollandale, Florida, USA May 18 1968, 2nd Show. 07. Getting My Heart Back Together - Miami Pop Festival, Gulf Stream Race Track, Hollandale, Florida, USA May 18, 1968, 2nd Show * Up from the skies Jimi arrived by helicopter at the "Underground Pop Festival" held in Hallandale, a small town near Miami, on Saturday May 1, 1968. Released here for the first time ever are two songs for the evening show. Amidst total chaos, while amplifiers were malfunctioning, the Experience struggled hard to give a decent performance. 08. Spanish Castle Magic - Winterland, San Fransico, California, USA, October 11, 1968, 2nd Show * A truly blistering version of Spanish Castle Magic is presented on this CD, and for the first time, in its full glory of nearly ten minutes. 09. All Along the Watchtower * Original backing tracks for "Electric Ladyland" sessions without lead guitar overdubs and other effects. 10. Axis: Bold as Love * Original backing tracks for "Axis: Bold as Love" sessions without lead guitar and phase shifting. 11. Hey Baby (The Land of the New Rising Sun) - K.B. Hallen, Copenhagen, Denmark, Septmeber 3, 1970. 12. Red House - K.B. Hallen, Copenhagen, Denmark, September 3, 1970 * The acoustics of the K.B. Hallen were magnificent and fortunately a splendid audience recording was made on this occasion. Jimi managed to get a cathedral-like sound on Hey Baby (Land of the New Rising Sun) while a beautiful subdued version of Red House closes this CD. Jimi Hendrix- guitar, vocal Mitch Mitchell- drums Noel Redding- Bass, backing vocals (Except tracks 11, and 12) |
