::: EX for its vintage, up-close recording. Check samples for leave it or love it bytes. ::: Warts (not many anymore!): Repaired dullspots & dropouts but surely missed a few. 1st 8mins occasional micro-dull spots sometimes annoying with extremely attentive listening (fixed many of them!). #04 bit of overload distortion. ::: CONTRAST CLAUSE: This is the Mk3 DimeTravel remaster of the "Mk1" Echinops 2020-01-04 upload still on DIME@ www.dimeadozen.org/torrents-details.php?id=665941 ::: COMPARISON CLAUSE: NOT the 1981"California Acid Folk"Penguin Records 2LP boot "Mk2"source but from the original tape. ::: Final show bill: Kaleidoscope/Steve Miller Blues Band/Country Joe&The Fish/Cleanliness&Godliness Skiffle Band/Janis Ian a.o. ::: This is the band's complete 1967-07-04 set (unknown generation from original tape source). ::: High quality poster scan @ https://cs.nga.gov.au/images/2400/109582.jpg ::: "10th Annual Berkeley Folk Music Festival" was 1967-06-30 to 1967-07-04@UC Berkeley Pauley Ballroom&Greek Theatre. Kaleidoscope played all 5 days! ::: KQED-TV filmed Kaleidoscope@this 5 day fest for "Summer Sampler-Folk music&rock'n'roll from the Berkeley campus"show, broadcast 1967-08-11 (Bruno). ::: This set purportedly NOT KQED-TV sourced but likely same show as Red Crayola Drag City CD "July 4 Jubilee Concert broadcast on KQED radio". ::: The Kaleidoscope's debut album, "Side Trips" was issued in May 1967. Versions of 2 of 3 trax here were featured on it. ::: Bruno's excellent website has LOTS more info @ http://brunoceriotti.weebly.com/kaleidoscope.html ::: Small size of folder due to using only the better channel after remastering - more info below. Recording Information ::: unknown mono reel-to-reel recorder & microphone -> master mono reel audience tape -> ? -> CD-R -> Echinops 2020-01-04 upload flacs. Remastering 2020-01-05 ::: flacs -> Audacity [normalisation to remove DC offset, fades, manual one-at-a-time glitch, bump, clap, pop, click, dropout & dullspot repairs, volume adjustments ,#01 -1% pitch (speed) fix with single pass after frequency analysis & with pitchpipe verification (#02-04 left speed alone), NO equalisation or noise reduction] -> CD Wave (track splits) -> flacs (Trader's Little Helper) -> yr ears. (FURTHER remastering notes: #01 8sec gap & #03 overlap gap now both seamlessly spliced. Used ONLY left channel after remastering/cross channel patches as it had higher frequency response & stabilised the sound). |
