My favourite guitarist after Jerry Garcia, Slick Aguilar, back in the UK, and accompanied by TC and Mark Karan no less, to do one of THE live albums of all time? As a fan of Slick's for over fifteen years and as a Deadhead of over 35 years, this was a no brainer. The audience seemed quite sparse at first, but soon filled up as the three support acts did their thing - a short acoustic Auburn set was followed by singer-songwriter, Steve Henderson, and then local boys, The Worried Men, threatened to blow the lid off - their Neil Young medley alone made me a convert.

And so to the main event. For those who need a brief update, Slick was Paul Kantner's axeman of choice through the KBC and later Jefferson Starship years, Mark Karan played as part of The Other Ones and Bob Weir's Ratdog, and TC of course tinkled the ivories in the Dead's early years. Slick also appears with other SF alumni as The Airplane Family with Peter Kaukonen and Prairie Prince handling the bass and drums for both groups. However, for this tour, bass and drums are being covered by two Brits, Tony Morley and Richard Newman, who have both occupied the JS drumstool at some point. What only very rarely showed was that the band only got together for their first rehearsal at 2pm the day of this, the first show of a seven night tour. Suffice it to say, all five musicians performed brilliantly and did justice to the legacy of the band and the album.

The recording came out very well - an excellent mix and not too many talkers. Disc split is where it is simply because that was the only time they stopped playing until the end of the set. Few breaks also meant little work to do on loud clappers nearby.

After such a fine first show, I had to make my way down to Exeter for night three of the tour: the venue was an arts centre tucked away up a sidestreet (with no cheap parking nearby!) and the audience seemingly slightly larger than Frome. A good three piece Auburn acoustic set was followed by The Stretch Report, who looked to be lost in early 80s punk and new wave - not bad, especially the lead guitarist and bassist, but equally not my thing.

As for Live Dead '69, if Friday's gig had been really, really good, this one showed the value of having band with two shows under their belt - the band were really tight and Tony's bass-playing, in particular, was off the scale. As for the encore break out, well, that was just pure fun!!!

Again, the recording came out very well - a very good mix, and with the mics at 8', not too many talkers nor loud clappers. Be warned, though - the bass is right up there; my video camera's anti-drop/vibration mechanism kicked in during 'The Eleven' and it shut down momentarily.

I went to Chicago to see The Grateful Dead's Fare Thee Well show (saw the one on 2015-07-04)
but must admit that this Live Dead 69 show was far better. Better setlist (oh well, how can we
compare classic Dark Star-St.Stephen-The Eleven-Lovelight sequence plus Good Morning Little
Schoolgirl-I Know Yor Rider encore to Shakedown Street-Liberty-Standing On The Moon and then Lost
Sailor-Saint of Circumstances-West L.A. Fadeaway-Foolish Heart?), better sound, better
psychedelic light show, ticket 10 times cheaper (paid 27 GBP for this show, paid 330 USD
- 270 GBP approx on Stubhub for FTW show beacuse it was impossible to buy face value ticket
on Ticketmaster from Europe and there was no mail order available for Europe).
These old guys still rocks and it is great to see 5 shows (2 USA and 3 UK) already up on Dime
even if they started touring only recently in December 2016.

So, highly recommended for all the Deadheads around!

As usual, share, enjoy, go to the shows when you can and buy original records (that's what
I do)!

Set I was certainly a warm-up. Set II, though, was for us here at ThoseSpacesInBetween near perfect: the atmosphere, the audience interest, the setlist, the performance and TC was... well; so quietely tuned in with a pull like gravity toward each one of us in our own strange way. I have been away from the torrent scene for quite some time for reasons I'm sure aren't of much mind for most- but it has been a mission of mine- when possible to find 'THIS' show of the hundreds we have, and continue to, record monthly. I prefer posting in chronological order; but I had mentioned to someone at ShnFlac, Lossless Legs that we had been at and recorded Live Dead '69- so I have been
searching for quite some time and Finally found it; and it is 'Wonderful'; the recording
isn't so bad either;)

THE AIRPLANE FAMILY with LIVE DEAD ’69 fresh off their critically acclaimed 2016 inaugural tour), add 2 members of THE NEW RIDERS, and continue in 2017 to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of “The San Francisco Sound."

THE AIRPLANE FAMILY reunites Jefferson Airplane, Jefferson Starship, Hot Tuna, Grateful Dead & New Riders of The Purple Sage alumni & legacy/ family – with musical luminaries – a veritable “Who’s Who” of West Coast musicians; and, introducing 2 sensational vocalists.

The halcyon era performers are:

Tom Constanten, Grateful Dead’s original pianist, inducted into The Rock Hall of Fame in 1995.

Slick Aguilar, Jefferson Starship lead guitarist (1992-2015), also David Crosby Band lead guitarist (1983-1986). Since co founding The Kantner, Balin, Casady Band in 1985, Aguilar performed longer with the late Paul Kantner & with Marty Balin - and played the songs of Jefferson Airplane and Jefferson Starship more than any other musician ever.

Mark Karan, lead guitarist with Bob Weir’s Rat Dog and The Other Ones for 14 years, now also appears with Phil Lesh & the Terrapin Family Band.

Mike Falzarano, a long time member of Jefferson Airplane spinoff Hot Tuna in the 1980s; and, in recent years - helped forge and lead a resurgent, acclaimed iteration of Grateful Dead spinoff, The New Riders Of The Purple Sage.

Robin Sylvester bass guitarist with Bob Weir’s Rat Dog for 14 years, also toured with Marty Balin, Jefferson Airplane founder.

Johnny Markowski, drummer for acclaimed iteration of Grateful Dead spinoff, The New Riders Of The Purple Sage. For 15 years.
