Unfortunately, the next time I checked the recording status, we were already 3/4 of the way into "Born Side Stepper".

Since this show was not streamed over DNB Radio, you deadicated maniacs did not hear any of this and I figured, you
might like to hear the rest and the best.

--I was hesitant to seed this show because my recorder shut down unexpectedly without my knowledge towards the end of "Man Overboard".
--Unfortunately, the next time I checked the recording status, we were already 3/4 of the way into "Born Side Stepper".
--Since this show was not streamed over DNB Radio and I previously seeded it on bt.etree as 16 bit, I thought you might like to hear it 'cause it really was a good show.
--It was also kind of a strange situation because this show happened at the very beginning of the pandemic and nobody really knew how to react. Us locals were elbow bumping wih mainlanders but at that time it was a surreal situation. It was like nobody really knew what to believe. My wife got sick for a little over a week after the show but at that time she wasn't allowed to test for covid because she didn't exhibit enough symptoms. She turned out OK.
--The concert area was fenced off right next to the beach. As a result, many locals were dancing through the show in the sand just next to stage left. The only drawback for them was that they couldn't see the stage.
--As my wife and I walked around the site prior to the show, a couple asked me to take their picture in front of one of the Buddhist statues on site. The guy looked familiar so I asked, "are you John?". Yes it was John Molo and his wife. Such nice people.  We didn't go much beyond that at this time and I hope he didn't think I was stalking him because I was recording for the remainder of the Kihei shows with mics clipped to my glasses directly center at the stage lip staring through the rest of the band directly at him! We also got to speak several times prior to the Kihei shows but I never told him I was recording. I must say, however, that he was on fire during the Maui shows.  Finally, the final night of the Kihei shows, I got to tell his wife I was only recording not staring :-)
--So, as usual, take it if you need it, if you don't just pass it on.

VFW Hall 3850 is another great outdoor venue for another tight DNB show.

If you've ever been to Maui, you know that the south shore areas can get pretty windy.
Although we had high wind advidories posted for this night, the winds died down
for the most part with only an occasional gust that can be heard in this recording.

Several of the venues for this "Back To Hawaii" tour are located in residential
areas so in addition to all the door open times of 4:20, there were also strict
curfews. In this case, the band finished at 9pm and prepared to leave the stage.

As they were exiting, a conversation took place at the rear of the stage and
Barry walked out and explained that we had a strict "pull the plug" curfew
but the band would do one more short one.

--This show was recorded from dead center at the lip of the stage. Overall, the sound is very good but David's vocals were mixed so that they were a bit low at this location.
--Another interesting part of this section of the tour - reports of the Covid pandemic were just starting to emerge. Meeting up with folks from the mainland was somewhat awkward since at this time, elbow bumping was seen both as a precaution and as a joke.
--My wife wasn't at this show but showed up for the next night and became sick. At this time, covid testing was very limited and she was not able to be tested. It all turned out OK in the end.

to spend the time waiting for the finale.

cut the sound of the winds in the recording during post so the occasional
gusts are not very intrusive. Don't forget this is an outside venue bordering
the west beaches of the Pacific Ocean.

After the band left the stage, it appeared the show was over so I turned off the
recorder. Barry and David came back to the stage and each made a heartfelt
statement of how everyone made this tour very memorable.

So, mahalo nui loa to everyone who made these Hawaiian shows possible.

Recording Notes:

This final night of the "Back To Hawaii" tour felt really special.

It was one of those events where you had to be there to meet and greet the guys as they mingled through the crowd during the breaks. Speaking of which - the fire dancers performing between sets was a really nice way to spend the time waiting for the finale.

The show was recorded from a position dead center at the lip of the stage so there's more of the sound coming directly off the stage and stage monitors. As a result, David's vocals sound a bit distant at times.

Once again, we had severe wind advisories posted for Maui this night. I attenuated the sound of the winds in the recording during post so the occasional gusts are not very intrusive. Don't forget this is an outside venue bordering the west beaches of the Pacific Ocean. The ocean is located about a football field away from where the stage was set up.

After the band left the stage, it appeared the show was over so I turned off the recorder. Barry and David came back to the stage and each made a heartfelt statement of how everyone made this tour very memorable. David made a statement saying, "I think we played pretty good this tour".

So, mahalo nui loa to everyone who made these Hawaiian shows possible.
