However, most are rare & generally what circulates in aud's are generations from my masters or from another taper's tapes at the time, like Barry Glassberg. I'm one of those people that prefer SOME 'energetic' aud's over sbd's & these IMO are "energetic". I'm working on getting the remainder of say 5/3/77 (and any other better copies out there from this run) from Barry's masters, and other masters, in order to have the complete best 'aud' copies of these shows. The tapes that come from MY masters are: Panasonic AM/FM Stereo 'boom box like' w/condenser mics) > CM (Cassette Masters) > various equalizers & editors > CD or DAT -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Performance: May 28, 1977 Hartford Civic Center - Hartford, CT Set 1 Bertha > Good Lovin' > Sugaree Jack Straw Row Jimmy Minglewood Blues Candyman Passenger Brown Eyed Women Promised Land Set 2 Samson And Delilah Tennessee Jed Estimated Prophet > Playing In The Band > Terrapin Station > Not Fade Away > Wharf Rat > Playing In The Band One More Saturday Night Encore: U. WARNING -- When switching from one source to another please turn down your volume and eq then reset volume/eq to your liking! Tape History: I also want to keep you up-to-date as to the progress of my conversions for these '77 analog masters I have to the digital domain. I have almost a complete set of CD's made up for most of my masters, so I don't need to keep using them as they are getting old and deteriorating rapidly. Besides, they leave a residue on my cassette decks heads. I have to clean my heads every time I play just one tape. 1st a little of the process I've been going through to do said conversions. I'm working with "Cool Edit96","GoldWave" and others to get it to my computer as well as edit the "wav" files and then burn to CD. I then do a optical (digital) connection recording, from my CD player to my DAT deck or straight from my computer to my DAT deck with the digital I/O on my soundcard. So what did I do you ask? The specs were: 5/28/77 It took me about 48 hours to get just right, but 5/28 is done. I used Richard Plumb's DAT via Jim Wise masters [thanks guys :-)], except for 2nd set "Samson" through "Drums", where I used my master. On 5/28/77 I was standing real close to the speakers, starting about 3 minutes into "Samson" & stayed their until NFA. The 1st 3 min. of "Samson" is passable. Rather then break up the song with Richard's, then splice in mine after the 1st 3 min., I decided to use my master straight through to the end of "Drums". Richard's DAT has an inferior "Terrapin", so mine is an upgrade. My master is on par with Jim's, for ONLY the brief segment where I was standing close to the speakers, but a little brighter on the middle & high end but not quite as low on that end. Anyway, it makes for a nice complete show with 'vg' sound quality wise. For all of Set 1 & from "NFA" to the end of Set 2: Jim Wise used: 2 Sony 54P mics w/ Sennheiser 441 blend mic > Nakamichi 550 cassette deck FOB > reel @ 3 3/4 ips > DAT @ 48kHz > my computer > DAT @ 44.1kHz or CD. For Set 2, "Samson" through "Drums": (Panasonic AM/FM Stereo 'boom box like' w/condenser mics) -> CM (Cassette Masters) -> my computer* -> CD or DAT @ 44.1kHz *See below. 1) Sony 3-head cassette deck (TC-K615S) > 10 band equalizer, "eq". The "eq" settings: 31Hz 62Hz 125Hz 250Hz 500Hz 1kHz 2kHz 4kHz 8kHz 16kHz Left: 13db 13db 13db 13db 13db 13db 12db 11db 10db 9db Right: 13db 13db 13db 13db 13db 12db 10db 10db 10db 9db 2) > My computer using "CoolEdit96". 3) "CoolEdit96" noise reduction, just to remove some of the hiss, (after "Get Noise Profile from Selection"). Noise Reduction Level = 4 FTP size = 8192 Number of statistical snapshots in profile = 96 Precision Factor = 10 Smoothing Amount = 1 Transition With = 0 db 4) "GoldWave" equalizer (a touch of bass boost): 60Hz = 4 150Hz = 4 400Hz = 3 5) On 8/24/99, while getting these ready for online consumption as SHN files, I redid these slightly from the original seeds. What I did in "Cool Edit Pro" was: a)Reduce the overall volume to all the WAV files. b)Use "pan stereo expand" feature, with the "stereo expand" settings at the highest possible to 300%, EXCEPT from Samson through Drums I used 200%, straight line across the spectrum. c)I spliced into Samson the 1st 3 minutes from the Jim Wise master. d)Reduce the overall volume again to managable listening levels. 5/8/77 Filler I spent today redoing 5/28/77 CDs for our next batch. I also put on the last CD of 5/28, a COMPLETE 5/8/77 Lazy Lightnin'>Supplication from a crisp BBD, plus my master 30 sec. AUD for the missing section. It's beautiful! Douger Otto should like this? Hey Doug, you'll have to sign up for batch #2 to get this one, :). Also, I put together a NEW "5/8/77 (long version) Teddy GoodBear Collage". It's just over 20 minutes long & fits nicely on the last disc of 5/28 too! The "Collage" is highlights of 5/8/77 done my way. The process: 1) Sony 3-head cassette deck (TC-K615S) > 10 band equalizer, "eq".
