Hey Everybody!

Last night's Athens, GA show was the last in Andrews two week tour
supporting Vic Chesnutt. It took place at the 40 Watt club, which I
have to say I quite liked. I don't usually see a lot of venues that
are spacious, have multiple couches, tables, chairs, & air
conditioning the runs during the show. I'm not sure if the tables
and chairs are only set up for special events (they had some kind of
party before the show), but it was still nice. I got a good folding
chair and wicker table right smack in the front and center, so I was
a happy boy. Andrew didn't come on until about 11:00pm and played
about an hour long set. I'm pretty sure if they hadn't turned some
music on the audience would have continued clapping for an encore. I
didn't stay for Vic Chesnutt because with an hour and half drive home
I was looking at getting home around 2:00am as it was. Good news is
that he sold out of Weather Systems before the show was even over.

It was rather enjoyable watching Andrew solo. He had a guitar,
violin, & xylophone, and re-looper/mixer thingy set up as his
artillery. He also utilized his whistling skills a lot, more so when
he was playing the xylophone. At times when he had the guitar
strapped to his back, violin & bow in front of him, and xylophone
stick in hand at the same time it was quite humorous. You half
expected him to have a drum kit strapped to his back and a harmonica
around his neck as well. It was quite funny watching him try to do
everything at once...his eyes where all over the place and you could
see the thoughts churning in his head. At one point he put his bow
next to the xylophone and then forgot where he put it, he didn't say
anything to the audience about it but you could tell he was
distraught by not knowing it's location. I think he put it best at
the beginning of the show when he said "Hi, My name is Andrew Bird's
Bowl of Fire". The violin did not take any hits from the repairs, it
sounded just as good as new. I almost thought it sounded too new, but
maybe it was just my mind looking for something that was different.
