Medeski Martin & Wood Homage @Little Five Points, Atlanta, GA Sunday, May 29, 1994 Source: AKG 414s > DAT Transfer: Tascam DA-20 MK II > Audiophile 2496 > Sound Forge 7 > CD Wave > Flac Level 8 Transfer by: Mike Vescovo (shackaholic_AT_gmail) Thanks to Louie Rendek for the audio clean-up! Set One/Disc One: 01. [20:50] - Open Improv > Vergessene Improv* [@3:50] > Open Improv [@13:42] > 02. [12:35] - Shack 03. [13:11] - We're So Happy > 04. [08:51] - Friday Afternoon In The Universe 05. [07:34] - Wiggly's Way, 'John Speaks' [@6:20] Set Two/Disc Two: 01. [10:45] - Pakalolo 02. [09:02] - Syeeda's Song Flute > 03. [14:58] - Open Improv > Improv (w/"Mystery Gus" melody)+ [@5:42] > Open Improv^ [@13:21]// ~ NOTES by dug - May 6, 2016 ~ * this improvisation centres around a melody we find popping up later in MMW's shows: On April 14/2000 they open an acoustic show with a loose working of this melody but it's underdeveloped and never heard from again; the song first debuted in full on April 25/2007 as part of a short acoustic tour. A version of the song from that tour was later released on the 2012 live acoustic album Free Magic with the following title: Ballade In C Minor, 'Vergessene Seelen'. The song was then subsequently played on the Fall '12 and Spring '13 acoustic tours in support of the album. 'Vergessene Seelen' translates to "Forgotten Souls", so I labeled this improvisation 'Vergessene Improv' -- the forgotten improv. From 3:50-6:45 of the track is kind of a lead-in to the 'Vergessene' melody which comes in strong at that point and is the main theme for the following 6min or so. + "Mystery Gus" melody first introduced just past the 9min mark and solidified @10:05 of this track, might be from a real song but the only other place I've identified the melody is during the band's 4 instrumental performances of the Combustication tune 'Whatever Happened to Gus' in early 1999 (1/14, 1/16, 3/20 & 3/23) -- see The Shack Project 1999 page for links to the shows: https://theshackproject.com/tsp1999/ ^ recording fades out/cuts at the end of this track leaving Set II incomplete Notes: ---------- ~ There is some debate as to what the correct date for this show is. The DAT I recieved for this show was labeled 5/29/94. Rumor has it that this show might be 5/24/94. ~ There is some clipping on this show in the first 30-40 seconds. No edits were done in these spots. ~ There was a split second dropout at 1:08 in the Improv track (d1t01) along with a couple millisecond spots of diginoise, all in the right channel. 0.100 seconds of audio from the left channel was cut and paste into these spots to clean these errors. ~ There was a 0.060 second dropout in the right channel of the Improv track (d1t01) at 1:49. 0.065 seconds of audio from the left channel was cut and paste to clean this error. ~ There was a 0.020 second dropout at 2:29 in the right channel of d1t01 Improv track. 0.030 seconds of audio from the left channel was cut and paste to fix this error. ~ There are two dropouts at 2:55 and 2:56 in the d1t01 Improv track that are in both channels. These are unfixable, but I was able to smooth them out. ~ There are also dropout/diginoise spots in both channels at 4:46 and 5:12 in the d1t01 Improv track that are also unfixable. ~ There is a 0.015 second dropout in We're So Happy that was unfixable because it is in both channels. ~ There was a split second spot of diginoise at 9:14 in the We're So Happy > FAITU track that was only in the right channel. 0.100 seconds of audio from the left channel was cut and paste to fix this errored spot. ~ There was a split second spot of diginoise at 16:24 in the Improv after Syeeda's. I patched the audio to fix the error. ============================================================= ID3 TAGGED FILESET INCLUDES THESE NOTES: ============================================================= [This fileset is an ID3 tagged version of http://db.etree.org/shn/26569] Traders Little Helper used for creating checksums: - FLAC ST5 & MD5 generated for original FLACs - FLAC ID3 tagged files matched to original FLAC ST5 - FLAC MD5 generated for ID3 tagged files (t-flac.md5) MP3Tag (current version) used for all ID3 tagging: - The metadata ID3 tags can be read by any player that plays FLAC files. - ID3 tags will be stripped if converted to WAV, however audio data will be unaffected Use FLAC ST5 to validate audio integrity.
