Robert Randolph And The Family Band opened

There seems to have been a "pause" in the recording just before track 12 -- likely because I was concerned about the show going longer than 3 hours

I painstakingly scrubbed about 460 LOUD claps, yells, and whistles right into the mics from this recording

Recorded, transferred, mastered, tracked, tagged, and posted by Scott Bernstein (likely patched out of Eric McRoberts' rig)

DAT Transfer: 1/27/2018
Mastering, tracking, tagging: 3/1/2018-12/27/2018

Taper notes:
For BARN177, I opened up the choice to a guest that was visiting last January who proceeded to say "You have Lettuce recordings from 2001 that are not in circulation?! You must correct that!" -- so thanks to Jenn Glickman for choosing this one to share with the world. Lettuce has become one of the great funk bands around -- touring the whole world, spreading the funk and winning many converts. At this time they were essentially known as a Soulive side project (because they Eric Krasno was a founding member of both bands) -- and while the core of the band has remained, they have since contributed members to Dave Matthews Band (Rashawn Ross) and had the keyboardist from this time period, Jeff Bhaskar, leave and became one of the most in demand hip hop and pop producers/cowriters in the business, having worked with Jay Z, Beyonce, Kanye West, Bruno Mars, Fun, Drake, Alicia Keys, Lana Del Rey, Pink, Taylor Swift, The Rolling Stones, Eminem, Mark Ronson, Rhinanna, Harry Styles, Katy Perry, Ed Sheeran, Miguel, and just about any other big name you can think of in the pop world in the last 10 years.

This show was part of a 4 week Wetlands run featuring special guests each week. Eric McRoberts has previously posted the first week's recording (featuring DJ Logic, Ekene Nwokoye, Charles Haynes, and Grant Green Jr) from 1/3. This week featured Ekene again, the amazing Casey Benjamin (from, at the time, DJ Logic's Project Logic band) on sax (what's he up to these days?), Javier Colon who was the Derek Trucks Band vocalist at the time (and would go on to win a season of The Voice), the mind-bending James Hurt on keys, Charlie Haynes again, Pete Stoltzman (no clue who he is) and some of the rappers/free-stylers that frequented the Wetlands those days -- Pauly Ethnic and Baba Israel. The 3rd week (which, with any luck, will be my next BARN series) features LEGENDARY trombonist Fred Wesley, originally famous as part of James Brown's horn section. If you have a look at the setlist, it has many of their commonly-played originals in it, but it is also chock full of the best funk and soul covers -- this is a GREAT listen!

Also note that Erick "ED" "Baby Jesus" Coomes was absent from this run of shows. His large low-end shoes were more than ably filled by the incredible Matt Rubano who was the bassist from the prog-rock jamband Schleigho at the time (he eventually went on to become, for a time, the bassist for the band Taking Back Sunday, though he's no longer with them).

Enjoy this piece of history!!!
