The Meters 1976-06-13 Nice, Provence-Alpes-CÙte d'Azur, France Stade de L'Ouest (Mk2-M1-AUD) ~*~ Carefully remastered fixing many issues ~ Mk2 version with light EQ ~*~ ___ Lot of audience noise at start, skip to #3 to avoid the worst of it. ___ 01. --introduction-- 02. Fiyo On The Bayou (part 1 with unbearable AUD talk) 03. Fiyo On The Bayou (part 2) 04. Look-Ka Py Py -> 05. Big Chief 06. The World Is A Little Bit Under The Weather (->) 07. People Say 08. It Ain't No Use -> 09. Johnny B. Goode Total Time ::: 52:44 ::: Quite fine AUD, but in stadium with raucus crowd. Check samples for ear testin' or to cop a feel o' the funk. ::: Warts: Fixed most dropouts & dullspots but surely missed a few. Excessive yelling, laughing & talking in #2. After that it's just an occasional thing & could mostly be lowered in volume. Some clapping occasionally but 'twas most was lowered except 1 minute of unfixable clapping in latter part of #7, & again in #9. Also #9 has a bit of singalong. ::: Contrast clause: This is the Mk2 version, carefully remastered & using light EQ. The non-EQ'd Mk1 version is elsewhere. ::: The "Stade de L'Ouest" football stadium was also known as "Parc des Sports de L'Ouest". ::: The Meters were opening for The Rolling Stones on their "Black & Blue" tour. ::: "Trick Bag", the new album by The Meters, was already finished & was released in July (a few weeks after this gig). ::: MANY thanks should go to the French Gentleman for tapin' & DIMER unclemeat for facilitatin'. ::: If there is refining needed in the setlist department, do oblige. ::: If you get audio contact highs, watch out! Some people in the audience near the mike might be snorting DRUGS! Line-up ::: Art Neville - keyboards, vocals // Leo Nocentelli - electric guitar, vocals // George Porter, Jr. - electric bass guitar // Joseph "Zigaboo" Modeliste - drums // Cyril Neville - percussion, vocals. Nothing here ever commercially released to my knowledge. If I'm wrong, please advise & I'll take the offending trax offline. DimeTravel 091 ::: Thanks to the original taper & traders, The French Gentleman & DIMER unclemeat! ::: Corrections welcome ::: What a killer time for the Meters & this show REALLY stands out from what we've heard so far for live material of this vintage! A HUGE, fat, funky sound - they are absolutely SSSSMoKiN! If you are not sure, check out track #3 at 2:50 & see what's going down - jeez - many the band that would KILL to have that sound for just a few minutes in their career - intense. I saw the Meters try to open for the Stones in 1975 in Greensboro, NC. I don't think they lasted 20 minutes on stage. People were booing & yelling for the Stones & then started throwing bottles, etc. When Jagger came out he lambasted the crowd for their response & behavior. Anyone ever seen the Meters interviewed about what it was like on those tours in 1975 & 1976 opening for the Stones? Must have been pretty crazy some nights. I think this performance is excellent. Since I would rather listen to it myself with some light EQ to liven it up a bit & maybe some of you would too, I'm puttin' both versions out there. Listen, enjoy, show appreciation, share, give, spread peace.
