I will start this out by saying it takes four things to make a great recording.
Not necessarily in the order below.

1.  Need the proper gear - check
2.  Need the prime location - check
3.  Need the sound to be excellent - check
4.  Need to have people around me who are not ass hats -FAIL

I dragged my butt out of bed at 7 after a late night attending the Legends of
Candlestick flag football game the night before.  I arrived about 8AM and got
pretty much the perfect spot.  There was a group of jilted women who had set down
blankets in front for a party.  The early crew was nice and friendly and it seemed
like I might be lucky.  People all around seemed like they would be good to tape
around.  Eventually a woman joined the group and she was celebrating her birthday.
I got the feeling after watching her drink that trouble was coming.

The opening band was Sugar Pie DeSanto http://sugarpiedesanto.com/ a tiny 78 year
old blues singer.  She was a trip.  She pretended to fall down as a joke and was
telling the crowd to sit and stand on demand.  Solid backing band as well.  There
was no damage to this set as the second obnoxious woman hadn't yet arrived.  Between
sets birthday girl was getting more annoying by the minute. I particularly "enjoyed"
her discussion about being a 49 year old with PMS.  Shortly before the music start
obnoxious woman number 2 arrives.

As the Funky Meters start their set the two of them are standing in front of me 3 or
4 feel appart talking to each other so they could be heard over the music.  I finally
step to the right and in front of them leaving my belongings unattended and standing
behind one of their friends.  Got a strange look but it worked.  I could hear the
two yammering behind me for a few songs.  I decide to step back to my blanket and
birthday girl decides she wants to dance with me.  Now, if I was not taping and falling
down drunk I would have turned down this offer.  You can here is clearly on the recording.
I finally indicate I am taping and that becomes a topic of discussion between the two.
I move up front again and can hear them talk the entire set.  While there I watch birthday
girl almost do a face plant getting more wine.  I hope she didn't drive after the show.
During the encore I stepped back to my blanket and obnoxious woman two tries to say
something.  I finally gave her a STFU.  After the music ended I asked her if she talked
during movies too. She said yes and thought it was a funny question.  I have had my
share of idiots around me but can't recall someone talking loudly the ENTIRE set.  Aside
from those two its a really good recording but needless to say it is not as good as it
should be.
